Mateo has enjoyed every minute of being home. From sunsets, to stroller walks down the parkway, to karaoke, reading time and family time, Mateo is one busy and active boy! He absolutely loves nature (staring at the tree outside of the main window which we now call Mateo tree), and the sound of music. Sometimes it feels as though our life is a musical, as he loves it when you sign to him, so we find ourselves constantly singing out loud a tune for what ever activity we are doing. Mateo has had the chance to have his friend Jayden visit him in Niagara, he meet Jayden at SickKids, and was roommates with him for several months! It was a wonderful reunion to be able to get together outside the hospital and see Mateo enjoy his first play date.
Mateo is a funny boy and his personality has been shining through more and more. He loves peekaboo and silly faces always make him laugh.Since Mateo has a trach we cannot hear his voice, so hearing him belly laugh is one of my favourite things in the world. We are hoping to get a speaking valve that he can wear on his trach which will allow him to practice speaking. In the mean time we continue to understanding his non-verbal cues, and to teach him sign language. Although he is non-verbal at the moment, he communicates everything with his eyes, and his smile!
